Artist's Description

Note: Final products made with this image have NO WATERMARK.
This photograph of a Mexican Gray Wolf was taken on a mid-January 2024 visit to the Tucson area. These wolves have more red-orange markings than their name would indicate. Together with the subtle colors of its eyes, these markings make the animal an extremely compelling subject. (Objects don’t look back as this wolf does, hence “subject.”) The scene was an outdoor museum—Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. I took the photo with a 150-400mm lens on an OM-1 camera (Olympus/ OM System), ISO 5000, 1/500s, f/7.1, focal distance 293.

About Jim Wilce

Jim Wilce

I am a nature and wildlife photographer specializing in landscapes such as panoramas, trees in context, and animals in action or interaction! You could call me a "-scape" photographer, doing land-, cloud-, tree, and even snag-scapes, and I love capturing birds on gorgeous trees in gorgeous cloud- and land-scapes. Whether at home in Flagstaff or traveling to other parts of Arizona, southern California, or occasionally further afield (Texas, Missouri, and South Dakota most recently, I am never without my camera. My aim is to capture for viewers my encounters with the natural world that are so important and fulfilling. I shoot with Olympus gear, including an OM-1 and OM-D E-M1 II, and Olympus/OM lenses— a 40-150mm, a 300mm prime, a 30mm...
