Description
Black Phoebes abound near ponds and other bodies of water in northern Arizona. Their behavior is happily predictable. This individual was between short insect-hunting flights, returning to the same rock again and again.
A head shot was all I could get without moving and scaring the bird, given the length of my lens. I used a 300mm prime lens with 1.4x teleconverter, mounted on an OM Systems OM-1 camera, ISO 3200 1/3200s f/8.0.
I think birds deserve close-up profile treatment; don't you?
