Six hours after my mother died, I found myself at Walnut Canyon Pond on the east side of Flagstaff, Arizona. It was very dark and without color when I arrived on that very cold January morning. I noted the geese in the dark water. Gradually the clouds were tinged with color in the lead-up to sunrise. There are no beautiful sunrises or sunsets without clouds, IMHO. I was deeply touched, thinking of Mom's passing, as I witnessed the transformation, the scene BEYOND the darkness. It spoke to me of life, not just of death.
I took the photograph with a 40-150mm lens mounted on an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera, ISO 250 1.5s f/2.8.
I am a nature and wildlife photographer specializing in landscapes such as panoramas, trees in context, and animals in action or interaction! You could call me a "-scape" photographer, doing land-, cloud-, tree, and even snag-scapes, and I love capturing birds on gorgeous trees in gorgeous cloud- and land-scapes. Whether at home in Flagstaff or traveling to other parts of Arizona, southern California, or occasionally further afield (Texas, Missouri, and South Dakota most recently, I am never without my camera. My aim is to capture for viewers my encounters with the natural world that are so important and fulfilling.
