This gorgeous insect is the Arizona State Butterfly, the Two-Tailed Swallowtail. It is visiting agastache flowers.
I took the photo on 8/14/22 with a 300mm prime lens plus 2.0 teleconverter on an OM-1 Olympus mirrorless camera, at ISO 3200 1/2000s f/8. I posted a version of it a year ago. I decided to rework it, running it through Topaz Photo AI. It is a sharper image, but the memory of the butterfly is unchanged, and continues to move me.
I am a nature and wildlife photographer specializing in landscapes such as panoramas, trees in context, and animals in action or interaction! You could call me a "-scape" photographer, doing land-, cloud-, tree, and even snag-scapes, and I love capturing birds on gorgeous trees in gorgeous cloud- and land-scapes. Whether at home in Flagstaff or traveling to other parts of Arizona, southern California, or occasionally further afield (Texas, Missouri, and South Dakota most recently, I am never without my camera.
