Arizona's monsoon has returned, bringing daily (and even nightly) rains and decreasing the immediate threat of forest fires. I watched the sun rise, or more accurately, watched the dark sky lighten a bit as indirect evidence of the sun. Fog and mist were clinging to Mt. Elden. Our front door looks out on the small mountain, so it is easy to set up a camera on a tripod and wait for the most engaging, mysterious, subtly gorgeous show to begin. So it was on the morning of August 24, 2023 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
I captured this image using an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II mirrorless camera with 40-150mm lens ISO 200 1/13s f/7.1 55mm. Note the parallel lines, the sloping diagonals starting from the lower left of the image, moving on to the right, where those diagonals meet the upward sloping line of trees.
I am a nature and wildlife photographer specializing in landscapes such as panoramas, trees in context, and animals in action or interaction! You could call me a "-scape" photographer, doing land-, cloud-, tree, and even snag-scapes, and I love capturing birds on gorgeous trees in gorgeous cloud- and land-scapes. Whether at home in Flagstaff or traveling to other parts of Arizona, southern California, or occasionally further afield (Texas, Missouri, and South Dakota most recently, I am never without my camera. My aim is to capture for viewers my encounters with the natural world that are so important and fulfilling.
